Ovary pain

Hi I'm new so I sorry if this question has been asked many times

I have been suffering with very bad right back pain hip pain and urgency to wee to the point its painfull if I don't I feel like there is pressure pushing down and sometimes I want to push im 49 and 2nd year menopausal.

I had lots of urine tests all negative but the pain has continued to get worse .

The gp finally sent me for a scan and the next thing I know I

Receive a text message saying I have a large cyst on my ovary and a bulky ovary my gp said she had never heard of a bulky ovary .

They have asked me to be re scanned within 6 weeks I'm am so worried the pain won't go away .

What is the next step after having the second scan is it a biopsy?

I dont feel right no blood test has been offered to me I was given pills to stop me peeing so frequently by my gp and to be honest brushed off

Several months I have been combining about the pain

And to just be told by a text message from the gp I thought this was disgusting

Thank you for listening

  • Hello and thank you for your post,

I am sorry to hear about the pain and the problems you have with passing urine.

It sounds like the pain is caused by the ovarian cysts found. I realise that getting results via a text is not the ideal way to get this information however because of the pressure on the NHS and GP's this is happening now to many people.  At least, it looks like from what you say that there has been no mention of cancer.

The follow up scan in 6 months is done to see if the cysts have become smaller or have gone, if this happen hopefully your pain will get better. Non cancerous cysts can , for many women , get better without any interventions such as surgery.

If the next scan still shows these cysts are big and/or there are any changes you are likely to be referred to see a gynaecologist. If so you might need to have further investigations and this could mean a biopsy, but I am not sure. Most cysts are nothing to do with cancer however, I can appreciate your concern. The NHS has some good information about ovarian cysts on their website, you can see it here

I am afraid I do not know why you have problems passing urine. All I can say is that if this continues that you do let your GP know and ask why is it happening.

If your pain does not get better, particularly if it gets worse do speak again with your GP. If the pain gets worse and it is outside of GP hours then do contact the NHS on 111 to get medical advice.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
