Fibroadenomatoid change

Hi there, I had a breast ultrasound and biopsy last month and the results have come back. The letter says it is a fibroadenomatoid change. I can see a lot of info online for fibroadenomas but not fibroadenomatoid change & I thought I could have it surgically removed but I'm now not sure. I called the breast clinic and the woman told me it's the same thing but I don't think they are. Does anybody know what exactly it is and if it can be surgically removed?

thank you!

  • Hello and thank you for your email.

Getting reports from scans and biopsies can be very technical and sometimes not possible for people without a medical background to know much about them. So I can appreciate your questions about your scan and biopsy result. As nurses not involved in your care it is difficult for us to know much about the term used in your results. However I do think you should be reassured by what the breast care nurse has told you. Looking online at various medical sites it seems that fibroadenomatoid change is the same as a fibroadenoma but lacks well defined borders.  I have seen, in anything I have read, that this is benign (non cancerous) .

I wonder if you will be having a hospital appointment to discuss your scan and biopsy result. Fibroadenomas do not always need to be removed, so do ask if this will need to be. Breast Cancer Now has some information about them on their website,  you can see it here

I hope you will be okay.

    Take care,

    Caroline

  • Hi Caroline,

thank you so much for your response. They did say in the letter it was benign I was just curious about the difference between it and a fibroadenoma as I couldn't find any information about that thank you so much for clearing that up for me I do have an appointment next week to discuss it further. I'll report back with what they say incase someone else has the same question as me in the future!
