Large Lump in areola

Just after a bit of advice, I went to see the doctor on Wednesday because I came across a large (size of a ten pence piece) lump just above my nipple in my areole, I honestly wasn't that concerned however the doctor said very seriously "it's large, it's firm I am concerned" I had bloods taken last night, I think it may take up to 3 weeks to be seen, my partner is quite unwell and has been in hospital for the last three months so it's a really tough time. Not that there is ever a good time to go through this but I'm finding the wait really tough and not sleeping.

  • Hello, and thanks for posting.

I'm so sorry you are going through all of this, with your partner unwell too.

Unfortunately I am going to be unable to say if there is anything the matter, but you have done the right thing in speaking to the GP. Many women get referred into the breast clinic to be properly assessed, and the waiting for that appointment can be so difficult to manage. Here is a link to explain what will happen at the breast clinic.

If you can, try and keep yourself busy, so that your mind is occupied, but I know this is far easier said than done. Waiting for any appointment or scan result can be so tough emotionally, but even more so when you have other worries too like the health of your partner.

I hope you have other support to be able to talk through how you are feeling right now, if you need to you can call one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Sarah.
