  • Hello, Jemma, and thank you for posting.

I am so sorry to hear about everything you and your family are going through with your mums health. It is such a difficult thing to see the person you love so sick.

Everybody has very different ways they handle these sorts of things, and for some denial is what they have to do as they are struggling to process or cope with it all.

It would be good if your dad could discuss this with his GP, as they may be able to refer him for some counselling. Also your mum may have a specialist nurse (cns) or Macmillan nurse who she or your dad could talk to, as supporting the close loved ones is so important, and they may have a service in the hospital that offers this.

Coping with cancer is overwhelming, I've placed a link here which may be useful to you or your family. And this link also talks specifically about being the carer for someone with cancer.

Take care, and if you feel you want to talk any of this through please call one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040, 9am till 5pm, Monday to Friday.

    Sarah.
