Paranoia?

Recently had my routine mammogram and had word today that all is well with no signs of cancer so I should be thrilled and relieved! Problem is that I had a bit of swelling under right armpit for a couple of weeks prior to my mammogram which I hoped would just go away. I also felt one breast felt different somehow as though it was shrinking. Husband assured me it was always like that so I kind of dismissed it! Since my mammogram I've been paying a bit more attention and noticed I now have a little swelling in between my breasts and I think there's a change in the shape of my right breast so I have to confess I fully expected to be recalled to the breast cancer screening! I don't know if this is just all in my head now but I'm feeling anxious in case something has been missed. Any advice welcome?

  • Hello Bluebelle, and thank you for posting.

I'm afraid I'm going to unable to say if there is anything the matter, but I think you should be reassured that your mammogram came back clear.

If you feel this swelling has changed, or is different to when you had your mammogram, then it is probably good to talk it through with your GP.

Swellings under the armpit can occur when the body is fighting off infection from viruses or bacteria, or vaccinations can trigger this response too. Either way, as you are concerned it is best to get this properly checked out.

Take care, and hopefully you will know more soon.

    Sarah.

  • Thanks Sarah I know I should really be reassured that the mammogram came back clear. I think I'll keep an eye on it and see if anything changes. I'm probably just feeling anxiety as I lost my sister to cancer just 19 days after she was diagnosed (not breast cancer) and another sister has had a mastectomy several years ago.
