Full blood count worries

On going swollen lymph nodes and unchanged chronic fatigue for 8+ months got me a blood test last week. Full blood count showed as follows:

Total white blood count: above high reference limit

Neutrophil count: above high reference limit

Monocyte count: above high reference limit

Eosinophil count: low

My doctor has a major back log so I am not able to see my doctor until 6th of October but the receptionist who booked me in didn't fill me with much hope and now I am really worried.

Can anyone shed some light on what could be the cause?

  • Hello there

I am sorry to hear you have these ongoing symptoms and understand that you must be worried.

I'm afraid no one on the forum can tell you what may be wrong and you really need to wait and see what the doctor has to say.

Symptoms and abnormal blood result can be the result of lots of different causes and conditions. It seems that it is your white blood counts that have been highlighted in your case and reasons for this can be as simple as the body fighting off infection, inflammation, stress to more serious things like blood cancer which I assume you are most concerned about.

Often when blood counts come back out of normal range the doctor may want repeat the test or depending on someone's symptoms may arrange further tests or a referral to a hospital specialist for their assessment.

I hope you know more soon. Sit tight for now and try not to over analyse the situation until you have all the facts.

Do get back if you need to or you are welcome to call our helpline on 0808 800 4040 if you wish to talk things through.

    Take care

    Naomi

  • Thanks for responding Naomi, I am grateful for your guidance - 9 more sleeps until my gynacology appointment when hopefully I will be another step closer to the mist clearing.
