Lump in armpit

Hi,

I had COVID 2 weeks ago and found a lump in my armpit. I feel better now regarding COVID but the lump hasn't gone. My Gp has referred me to the breast clinic under 2 week wait.

Im frightened. Any idea how long it will take to be seen, I get it's meant to be within 2 weeks, but wonder if It's longer due to COVID? I'm in Bedfordshire.

  • Hello there

Sorry to hear you are recovering from covid but have a lump in your armpit that is worrying you.

It is good to hear you have seen your GP and they are referring you to the breast unit to be on the safe side. As I am sure you are aware there are some backlogs in the system and whilst patients who are referred on the suspect cancer pathway should ideally be seen within 2 weeks this isn't always possible.

If you don't hear anything you may wish to call your GP or breast unit to find out how long you may need to wait.

Just to say there could be a number of reasons for the lump and most will be harmless. Lumps often appear because of infection so could well be linked to having covid and lumps can stay up for a while after the infection has passed.

Hopefully you will be seen soon so this can be more closely looked at. Try not to let your mind over think things too much for now and remember most people referred to a breast unit or under a suspected cancer pathway won't go on to be diagnosed with a cancer.

    Take care

    Naomi
