Progression to lymphoma??

Two years ago I was diagnosed with IGM MGUS ...my IGM was 5.18 ...paraprotein level 3 with 10% plasma cells in my bone marrow....I have been attending a haematologist once yearly and have blood tests every 3 months ...during the past 2 years my Igm has risen to 5.98 ...my complete white cell count has dropped below normal...the paraprotein remained stable until August when it jumped from 3 to 3.9 ...I've have been suffering with headaches since summertime...very like sinus headaches ...that are constant ...my next appointment with my haematologist is December 14th .....I know Igm Mgus can progress to lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma....I was just wondering if anyone out there has any experience of this ....I'm a bit worried but don't want to be a nuisance ...has anyone experienced this ? I'd really appreciate any advice I can get .....thanks so much xx

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear that you are worried about your health.  There may be other causes that may explain your headaches but we can't diagnose you. I can understand that it can be difficult living with a life long condition knowing when to worry or not  about certain symptoms.

If you are concerned about your headaches and the change in your blood levels then do discuss this with your GP. It is interesting to hear other members on the forum with similar conditions but do remember everyone's situation is slightly different.

Macmillan have produced some information about this condition and worrying symptoms to look out for which you can see here

Small variations in tests are to be expected but for your own peace of mind do discuss this with your GP. I am sure if they were concerned then they would get in touch with your haematologist and you could have an earlier appointment.

You have posted in ask the nurses, if you post on another thread you may get more responses.

I do hope that your headaches get better but do make an appointment with your GP so you can talk about your concerns.

If you want to chat to one  of the nurses about any of this then do give us a ring.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    All the Best,

    Catherine
