Worried about breast (nipple piercing)

Hi I'm 24 and I've had an ongoing problem with my right breast basically I stupidly repierced my nipple and it caused some type of infection had puss coming out of nipple and sill have it. Had it for months tried antibiotics loads but only seem to stop the puss for a few weeks then returns. I haven't took the piercing out so maybe that's why? My boob feels swollen and painful to touch or if I'm walking down stairs ect... also found two little bruises on it this morning not sure if it from constantly squeezing it to check as I'm paranoid is this all linked to the infection?. Does this only sound like and infection or abscess. This has 100% come from repierciing my nipple with an unclean sewing needle ( stupid I know I was drunk;( ) I'm incredibly worried. Please help.  Should I take the piercing out and see what happens. Gp said to just see how the antibiotics go but this is my third round and she said referral to a breast clinic would take a month she didn't seem bothered atall but I'm so worried

  • Hello there

I appreciate this must be a worry for you but as this all seemed to happen since the re-piercing and given your age I wouldn't over think it for now.

As your doctor has said give the antibiotics a chance to clear up the infection and resist poking or prodding the breast or squeezing the nipple and give it some time. If it doesn't settle or things don't improve go back and I am sure the doctor will refer to the breast unit for peace of mind, but hopefully this won't be needed.

    Take care

  • Hi I've also had another symptom of itching all over my body could this be a bad sign I've took the piercing out and been referred to a breast clinic I'm just Worried and have to wait for the appointment. When I google things seems to all be bad signs could the itching just mean a bad infection. Feel all over the place and worried.

  • Hello and thanks for your further post,

I don't think the body itching is related to your breast issue. Do speak to your GP or local pharmacist and see what they suggest, in terms of a topical cream to help. Use non perfumed PH balanced products, and wash with tepid water, not too hot. Take an antihistamine to relieve itching.

Use the NHS website for medical information. Googling generally does not replace professional advice, and only tends to increase overall anxiety about one's health.
