Found a lump

Hi
I had breast cancer 7 years ago DCIS micro calcifications, had chemo and radiotherapy.

This week I have found a large lump in my other breast, I have an emergency appointment at the clinic on the 4th Oct. the mental tournament this time is awful, I have only told a couple of friends. I have 4 grown up children and can't decide when to tell them, my youngest daughter is 37 weeks pregnant with an IVF baby and I'm worried about stressing her, there's never a good time to share this news I guess; just don't know what to do part of me thinks wait until I have more information, or tell them now but just play it down so it's not such a shock

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

I am so sorry to hear about your situation and all the worry that this must be causing you.

Unfortunately no one is able to tell you any more until to have your appointment on the 4th of October. So many lumps found in breast clinics are benign (not cancer) but I  can understand how stressful this must be for you having had treatment in the past.

It is difficult knowing whether to tell members of your family or not. If you are being supported by other friends you may find it easier to tell your children once you know more. You may however find it helpful to have your families support whilst you are waiting to find out more. It can be stressful keeping information from family particularly if you are in regular contact with them.

Try not to over think it all if you possibly can. Keep yourself busy and  your mind on other things.

If you would like to chat this through with one of the nurses on the helpline then do get back to us or give us a ring. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take Care,

    Catherine
