I am sorry to hear your dad needs a blood transfusion but is reluctant to go into hospital to have this.

It is important your dad has this as the levels are extremely low. If he is experiencing symptoms because of this then a top up is most likely to make him feel better in himself and give him a boost so do try and encourage him to have the transfusion.

I don't think it would be possible for him to have the transfusion at home just because it takes 2-4 hours for each unit of blood to be given and it sounds like he will need a couple of units at least. Patients need close monitoring during a transfusion and ideally this needs to be carried out in a clinical setting where emergency care can be given if needed.

Sometimes it is possible for patients to have infusions as a day patient in community hospitals or hospices so do ask if there are other options available for your dad.
