Post menopausal bleeding

I'm 55, two years post menopausal and have been on HRT for two years. I was referred on the pathway and had ultrasound internally, I was told my womb lining is 60mm thick should be around 3-4mm. I was given an internal exam and biopsy taken. I received letter saying sample was insufficient for diagnosis. Appointment given for hysteroscopy. Attended clinic on Thursday and had procedure, the doctor was able to insert telescope through cervix into womb but not able to do biopsy. As I had driven myself to the appointment he was unable to give a local anaesthetic.  After going back to look at my notes from the ultrasound he came back and said the notes had been written up wrong and I have a mass at the top of my womb. He then said I needed bloods doing and an emergency MRI which could lead to emergency surgery.

I don't really understand what I'm having the MRI for will this be able to tell what this mass is.

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear you are undergoing some tests at the moment and there seems to have been some confusion about what may be going on. This understandably must be a worry for you but i'm afraid no one on here can tell you much more than you already know.

From what you have said there is a unknown mass on your womb that needs looking into more closely. The MRI will give more detailed information about what this might be and help guide the best treatment required, but it may not be possible for a diagnosis to be made until after the surgery and the pathology report is back to say what the mass is.

Try to hang in there for now and try not to over think things until you have spoken to the doctor after the scan, when they might have a better understanding of what this might be. Keeping yourself busy and your mind occupied with other things can be helpful at times like this.

Please get back if you like or you are welcome to call our nurse helpline on 0808 800 4040 Monday-Friday 9-5.

I hope everything will work out ok.

    Best wishes

    Naomi
