Test Results correct?

Did the oncotype DX test which came back with the highest score the doctors have seen.  This is despite being early stage, no lymph node evidence in biopsy and being told that 97%  sure chemo wasn't necessary.  Could this be a mistake?  Is it worth retesting?

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

I can understand your confusion why an early stage breast cancer, with no nodes involved, would get such a high score.

I would see what the doctors advise. The Oncotype DX test for early breast cancer is on the whole fairly accurate. Have a read what Breast Cancer Now have to say about it here

I would talk to your team about whether they would consider repeating it.

We have information about other tests including Oncotype-DX on our website here

No test is 100% accurate, but I can understand that with such a high score it does cause a degree of uncertainty.

If you feel like you would like to chat this through with one of the nurses on the helpline then do get back to us or give us a ring.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    All the Very Best,
