O

Hi I'm 23 years old and I have on coming and going lumps all around my vaginal area, mostly on the lips, this time I've got one on the lip not far from my clitorus it's very very sore, also have a swollen bit of skin that's connected to the clitorus also very sore, I've been to my doctors several times about this I went just 3 weeks ago yet again... I'm now just being referred to a gynaecologist I'm still waiting for an app, it's leaving me very scared and anxious it's frustrating me can anyone help with ideas what it may be and how to to stop it throbbing I can't wait for my appointment I'm in agony also I'm very scared about the cancer bit as quite a few of my family members have passed with cancer.

  • Hello there

I am sorry to hear about the symptoms you have and the pain and discomfort it is causing you.

I appreciate waiting for appointments can be unsettling and worrying time and it is understandable to want answers and hopefully you will be seen soon.

Unfortunately no one on here can say what the matter may be or if this is anything serious but it is good you are going to see gynaecology so they can take a closer look and hopefully treat whatever this may be.

At your age any cancer would be unlikely and even if someone has had family members with cancer this doesn't necessarily increase your risk by very much or mean you will go on to develop a cancer yourself, so try not to worry.

Symptoms are caused by lots of different things and rarely the cause is anything as serious as a cancer.

I'm not sure if you explained the pain and soreness with the doctor or if they recommended anything to try and ease things things but you could try some over the counter pain relief such as paracetamol to see if this helps. A pharmacist may be able to suggest something or a cream to soothe the area. Try if you can to only use non perfumed soaps or creams to wash the area and try to keep as clean as possible and use cotton underwear if possible so the area can breathe.

If it worstens do let your GP know but I hope things improve for you soon.

    Take care

    Naomi
