Renal Angiomyolipoma - embolisation v surgery

Hi Guys,
I have an angiomyolipoma on my left kidney. Was 2.9cm in Dec 19, 3.4x3.5cm in Dec 20 and now measuring 4cm on recent CT.
I had an appointment today with the consultant. One radiologist is not 100% that it is an AML, everyone else at the MDT are going with AML.
I have been given the choice of embolisation which should be circa 3months away or robotic surgery which would be many months away.
Does anyone has experience of either. The consultant is recommending the embolisation. Thanks so much for any advice. :-)

  • Hello

I am sorry but this isn't something we can advise you on.    Angiomyolipomas are usually considered to be benign tumours (not cancer) , so although I cannot guarantee this, I think it is unlikely that anyone here will have personal experience of being a similar situation and offered or had these treatments for the same condition.  So you would probably be better off  discussing it with your doctor or specialist nurse at the hospital.  It might be helpful to ask them the following questions

What are the risks of each of the treatment options and how likely is it that I might experience any problems with either procedure?

What side effects can I expect from each option?

What are recovery times for each procedure?

Is there any advantage to removing the tumour for further analysis?

I hope this is of some help

    Martin
