I’m checking and need advice

Hello,

I'm a 25 year old female. This is my first time asking on here and I don't really know what to do. I check my breasts everytime I shower but recently, I don't know if I am over thinking it my left breast feels harder like a tougher grainer part up the top.
I did have a scare when I had my appendix removed that there  was a cancerous tumour on it and it was lucky I got it removed when I did. Ever since then I have checked just incase.

I have googled what a "normal" breast should feel like but it's like my left one is just a little harder or just feels different to the right.

With covid going on I really don't want to waste GP's time if it is nothing.
I have a red pin *** rash that comes and goes and sometimes hives under my breast and on my chest I don't know if that's relevant or just a stress rash.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated,

thank you in advance.

  • Hello and thanks for posting

It is good to hear you are checking your breast regularly and it is important to be what we call 'breast aware'. There is more information about the signs and symptoms to look out for here that should be checked out by a GP just to be sure nothing serious is going on.

Doctors are trained to assess symptoms and if they are unsure or concerned they can refer on to a breast unit for more tests.

At your age breast cancer would be unusual but if you are worried and unsure what this change in your breast or the rash is being caused by it is best to arrange an appointment with your doctor to discuss.

Most symptoms won't be cancer but for peace of mind if something is niggling and doesn't settle by itself get it checked out.

    Take care

    Naomi

  • Hi Boot5

Like you I had my appendix out and a tumor was found and although they say it is now all removed, I do worry about everything little lump I find now. I just knew something didn't feel right at the time as this pain kept coming back. My thinking now is that you need to trust your own thinking and your own body. If something doesn't feel right or is different get it checked out. You are not wasting anyone's time and if nothing gets found then that will be the best news for not only you but also your doctor. I have lumps in my arms and I panicked after the appendix cancer and so I got them checked out and luckily they are non-cancerous and it's put my mind at rest. The doctor also understood why I was keen to get them checked.

So go and get checked fingers crossed for you x
