Hi this sounds like what happened to me last week. Get yourself along to ER.  I had rectal bleeding bright red and it was like a tap had turned on. Pants red.

After Ct scan was diagnosed with diverticular disease . Spent 4 days in the ward having transfusion and fortunately the bleed resolved without need for a procedure. This is a fairly easy problem to solve but due to the potential for infection and of course the effects of blood loss you need to get seen by the hospital and not wait for your GP appt.  Best of luck x

If the bleeding hasn't improved since you made this post and you're still concerned then it may be worth getting in touch with the NHS on 111 for some medical advice. There is more information on the NHS website about other out of hours services that may be available as well.

I am sorry we weren't able to get back to you sooner - the nurses aren't here at the weekends.

Rectal bleeding has a number of causes and doesn't have to be anything serious, but it needs checking out and if it is very heavy and continuous you should get urgent advice. 

I hope that by now you have either been able to access some medical advice or the bleeding has settled down. 

I also hope that nothing serious is going on and you can get this sorted out easily.
