Sex after LLETZ

Hi,

I had lletz treatment done 6 weeks ago and 3 lesions removed from my cervix. I waited 4 and a half weeks before engaging in sex with my partner and for all bleeding to have stopped.

However I feel so different. Emotional, insecure, no sex drive. I find sex is painful and really difficult to orgasm. Me and my partner have always had great sex and this is all so different for me and us.

Is this normal? and will it get better?

Also did anyone else recieve results after their treatment? I haven't recieved any results from further biopsies which is also playing on my mind!

  • Hello there and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear you needed to have Lletz treatment and are worried about how your sex life seems to have been affected by this treatment.

Try not to over think things for now if you can. Side effects such as pain and change in sensation and insecurity here are all common after this and it sometimes can take a good few months for things to settle and feel normal again.

In regards to the biopsy result it can take several weeks for these to come back but you may wish to call the hospital to see when these might be back.

Do get back in touch if you have further questions or you can always call the helpline on 0808 800 4040 Monday-Friday 9-5 if needed.

    All the best

    Naomi

  •   Hi Georgina, my girlfriend has undergone multiple LLETZ procedures over the last year or so and has experienced symptoms very similar to yours. From googling, we think this is relatively normal but are struggling to get support for this. Would be great to hear how things have progressed for you and whether you've seen any improvement in these symptoms?

Recognise that there has been a few years since you posted this but I've tried adding you as a connect request. If you see this, happy to share my contact details to get in touch.

  • Hello Bflint and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear that your girlfriend is having so many problems after treatment. You don't say in the post when she had the latest lletz treatment but if the discomfort has been going on for over 3 months then it might be a good idea for her to make an appointment with her GP.

It is important that if your girlfriend is struggling that she gets some help and support from the GP particularly if her symptoms have been going on for a while.

Your girlfriend may also find it helpful to look at the Eve Appeal website. We also have some information on our website about abnormal cells after treatment.

It is such a long time since the last post that you may find it helpful to start a new post to see if you get more replies.

You have posted in 'ask the nurses' but you may find it helpful to post in another category on the forum.

I do hope that over the next few weeks things will improve.

You are both welcome to ring and chat this through with one of the helpline nurses. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open Monday to Friday 9 am to 5 pm.

    All the best,

    Catherine
