I’m freaking myself out!

Hi everyone, a little about me - about a year ago I found a lump in my left breast, had a biopsy etc and it came back as a fibroadmenoma.. I am now waiting for surgery to have it removed next month.

but other the past 2 weeks or so I have been getting a very bad shoulder pain, weakness in my arm and constant tingling feeling. I went into hospital on Thursday as 111 thought I might've had a stroke. Anyways they ruled that out. They done a number of other tests which have come back normal and have given me tablets and sent me on my way.

I saw a post a few days ago about pain in shoulder can be linked/caused by Pancoast tumours. I forgot to mention it to the drs while at the hospital as I didn't want to sound stupid and they thought I was overthinking etc. But today it's got me really worried as I've got the majority of those symptoms linked to it.

Please can I have any advice on what you think I should do.

many thanks, Annie

  • Hello Annie and thank you for your post.

I am sorry to hear about the pain and discomfort you have. However, please remember that your breast biopsy did not show cancer, you have a fibroadenoma so it would be unlikely that your current shoulder pain and arm weakness is anything to do with this.

If you feel that you need to tell your breast team about your symptoms then do perhaps when you have the surgery or after it.  Also be reassured that when your breast lump is removed it will be looked at in great detail by a histopathologist (specialist doctor) under a microscope to check it out.

I hope your surgery goes well and that these symptoms do get better for you. If they do not do also mention them to your GP.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline

  • Hi there, thanks for your reply - But I'm not worried about my lump in the breast. I am asking about the shoulder pain, weakness in my arm etc. So please can you read over my original post and advise on that.

    Thanks

  • Hello, and thank you for getting back to us.

I'm afraid as nurses we are unable to diagnose, or tell you if there is anything the matter. I understand from your original post that you have been seen at the hospital and the tests didn't show that there were any problems. I think if you are still concerned it is best to make an appointment with your GP to be reassessed.

Take care, and I hope you get more information soon,

    Sarah.
