Lymph nodes/lymphoma in my baby

Hello everyone,

My little boy (11 months old) has been having a lot of problems with his stomach. Projectile vomiting for a few months, not wanting to eat, in obvious discomfort with stomach pain and has been struggling to keep weight on.

We had an ultrasound earlier this morning as they thought it was something to do with his bowel. They didn't find what we were referred for. However what they did find was several (10ish) very very large lymph nodes in and around his stomach. The doctor scanning him seemed concerned and the nurse assisting started rubbing my shoulders and back to comfort me and no one would tell me what was happening. I kept asking what it meant but they just said "I think it's best you wait for the consultant to contact you." I even said "please just tell me if he's okay" and the nurse looked so sad and they said "we can't, you need to speak to the consultant."

They said they would contact me this week coming to discuss with me but I can't help thinking the worst.

Has anyone got any experience with lymphoma in children and how obvious were the symptoms?

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear how unwell your little boy has been and appreciate this must be an anxious time for you.

I'm afraid no one on here can tell you what the matter is and why he has swollen lymph nodes around his stomach. It will only be the doctors who can explain what may be going on and what needs to have next.

Waiting and not knowing can be a very stressful time so try and keep yourself busy and your mind on other things if you can. We have a section on childhood cancers here but until you find out exactly what the matter is I don't know how relevant and helpful this will be.

Hopefully you will find out more at the appointment. Do make sure you ask any questions you have, it can be useful to write some down so you don't forget.

Please get back if you need to or you are welcome to give the nurses a call on 0808 800 4040 Monday-Friday 9-5.

    All the best

    Naomi
