Should I be worried?

Hello

I had an MRI for a swallowing problem and recently some time later received.a letter saying that while they had  no reasons for the problem they had found a benign growth, a meningioma, (how did they know it was benign) and I'd need an MRI with contrast. Within a couple of days I have been offered the MRI. I'm currently unwell so.couldnt take it. Now theyve offered me this next Friday.  I am very pleased obviously but is the speed (normally waits are months) worrying?  I know no one else can really but seeking some sort of reassurance - or not!

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

Unfortunately, we won't be able to offer a very specific reply. It sounds like they are keen to find out more, and establish the diagnosis. They do know what meningiomas look like on scans, so can usually make an accurate diagnosis when evaluating a scan.

Meningiomas are benign (not cancer), but can still grow in size and cause symptoms, if not treated.

I hope that you get to find out more about your situation soon,

    Best wishes,
