Getting annoyed.

About 4 months ago I found a lump on my right next since then I've had more come up on my collar bone on the left side. And the one one the right is growing fast. I went to the gp and she was amazing she told me what she thinks it is straight away. She thinks it's lymphoma I ahve itchiness night sweats tiredness. The last few days I start my period which is really really heavy and I'm starting to bruise really easily but they're not like normal bruises they're like red patchy bruises that go quite quickly after. I got referred to heamotology which sent me for a neck ultrasound and I was suppose to have a guided  biopsy which never happened and they didn't tell me why but I had the ultrasound it's about 2 and a half weeks later I rang the gp for the results and she said they have to have a special meeting dtm something like that then today I rang back up to see what's going on she said I need to ring the hospital so I rang the department where I got my ultrasound done and he said my results are back but I need to ring my consultant I didn't even know I had a consultant he gave me his name I've tried calling but no anwser. I'm really starting to stress out and get annoyed I know they're busy and I'm probably being over the top but it's just Playing in my head round and a round I feel like I'm being passed of to a new doctor every week with no one telling me anything.  On the ultrasound I saw what they looked like and the doctors were talking to eachother so I heard what they were saying that it's level 2. Do you have any advice to help me what to do. Improbably being stupid but Yh thanks

  • Hello Cmd278 and thanks for posting,

I am sorry to learn about what has been happening. This must be a very stressful situtaion to be dealing with, and I can see how you feel you are being passed from pillar to post.  I don't think you are being stupid, it sounds like there is a communication issue and it is the hospital's problem not yours. Unfortunately there are times when patients are in the dark a bit while the doctors are looking into what is the matter and figuring out the bigger picture from what test results they have. Sometimes, but not always, they decide they need more test results before they can be certain. Getting a firm diagnosis is an unsettling time for anyone, but I am sure they will be in touch soon.

A MDT (multi-disciplinary team) is made up of specialist doctors from different backgrounds but all with an interest and experience in treating a particular disease or type of cancer. They meet up usually once a week and review patients who are being investigated, and may or may go on to be diagnosed, as well as patients who already have a diagnosis. If the MDT met up yesterday, say in the afternoon, someone might get in touch anyway today to fill you in.

In the meantime you could try to contact the consultant again.  Consultants have medical secretaries so try going through the hospital switchboard to ask for the secretary and check that the number you were given by the ultrasound department is the correct one.  You will probably have to leave a message for the consultant to get back to you as they are likely to be busy and not immediately available or the secretary may be able to tell you when you will get the appointment.

Having to wait is frustrating and can make anyone worry more. If you still haven't heard anything by the end of the day, call your GP after the weekend,  tell her you have tried to contact the hospital with no joy and ask her to do it on your behalf.

Please call us if you want to talk things through with one of the nurses. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and we are around weekdays form 9-5.

    Best wishes,

    Julia
