Colonoscopy

My mum had a colonoscopy last thursday to remove a polyp whilst doing that they found a tumor the surgeon said it was soft and large just wondered if that could be cancer or benign

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

Unfortunately, as nurses, we cannot give you a medical opinion, or guess what it might be.

Most actual tumours found in the bowel are cancer, but a tissue sample would be sent off to the laboratory for analysis to see exactly what it is. Do bear in mind that evn if it turns out to be cancer, the earlier it is detected, then it is likely to be treated successfully. Polyps are also removed if needed, and sent off to be tested.

I hope that you get to find out more soon.

    Best wishes,

    Vanda
