Changes in breast

I'm 22 and recently I've noticed some changes in my breast, I'm unsure if this is hormonal?

but I have some asymmetry my left is a lot bigger than my right which isn't really a change but my right areolea is a lot bigger and the nipple seems to be more erect than the left which has seemed to soften and not be as erect.

is this normal?

no lumps but some slight pains in my shoulder and side of breast.
also not pregnant

  • Hello and thanks for your post

I’m sorry you are worried about your breasts. Most women do find one breast is bigger than the other. Hormones do play a part in the size and feel of the breasts, and breasts can vary throughout the month depending on your menstrual cycle.

Breast pain is also commonly caused by either hormonal changes, or pain from the muscle and ribs underneath the breast. So you might want to monitor things for a few weeks to see if they vary with your periods, before contacting your GP. But it is ok to talk this over with the GP now if you feel worried.

Because of the current pandemic, it’s more likely you will be offered a telephone appointment initially with your doctor. After the consultation, if they feel they need to see you, they can offer you a face to face appointment.

Give us a ring if you want to talk anything through. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    kind regards,

    Celene
