Is incontinence normal for LLETZ

About 2 years ago i was first checked and was found to have abnormal cin1 cells they waited a year and checked again to see if it went i still had cin1 cells so they booked me in for an LLETZ which they downgraded to a cold coagulation. When i next got checked to see if it was gone there were high grade CGIN cells mixed in the punch biopsy so i had the LLETZ yesterday . But after i felt the urge to wee all the time i went to the toilet 3 times in 2 hours and spent quite a while each time squeezing out every drop but within several hours i felt normal and i thought that was that but today i was walking down town and i had to turn back because i kept wetting myself just splashes slipping out like when you feel your period start but it kept happening and i thought no i'll go home get changed and put a pad on but still none of this was in the booklet they gave me about what to expect , was it the localised injection or a procedure mistake or completely normal and goes away eventually i dont know im just hoping for answers

  • Hi and thanks for posting

It's still only a day after the procedure so things may well settle down in the next day or so. The entrance to the urethra might have got a bit irritated and there may also be a possibility of a UTI (bladder infection) if things haven't settled down. However, I really can't say. The GP surgery could always test your urine to see if this is the case.

You can also always try calling the colposcopy clinic for further advice to see if this is something that can be expected to happen.

Keep an eye on it and do go back to the GP if things haven't improved.

    All the best

  • Hi, did you eventually get any answers?
I had Lletz done last Thursday and get whooshes of discharge/fluid/wee every now and then since. I can't tell where exactly is coming from. But at points, I've soaked through a pad. Also, as you mention, is not something that they tell you to expect so I'm at a lost. Phoned my GP 2 days ago and they said it could be a sign of infection but that it was "strange" that so much came out... I've done a swab and waiting for results but with COVID it'll probably take longer to get the results.  Thanks :)

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

You wouldn't normally expect fluid discharge particularly after a Lletz, as it only treats the surface and top layers of the cervix. You can sometimes develop infection and discharge after this procedure, so doing a swab to see, is sensible.

Hopefully, you will get to find out more soon, and your GP can advise you further.

    Best wishes,

    Vanda
