Right side neck lump

Hi I'm a 19 year old girl who recently found a lump on the right side of my neck and not sure weather to be concerned or not? For the past 4 days I haven't felt well within myself I've been having a fever and chills, tiredness, neck pain, sore ears, sore throat  and sickness. I haven't phoned the GP as I'm scared as what this could be. My great uncle had throat cancer which is why I'm stressing just wondering if anyone had any advice ?

  • Hello and thanks for your post

I'm afraid we are unable to diagnose or tell anyone if anything is the matter. Lumps can have straightforward medical explanations, such as infection. But only a doctor can make a medical assessment so the best thing to do is to make an appointment to see your GP to get checked out just to be on the safe side.

Because of the current pandemic, it’s more likely you will be offered a telephone appointment initially with your doctor. After the consultation, if they feel they need to see you, they can offer you a face to face appointment.

I'm sorry your great uncle had throat cancer. Cancers affecting the throat area are uncommon but when they do occur they usually affect people over the age of 60. So this is very unlikely at your young age.

I hope things improve for you soon.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
