Ca125

Hi

So here I am 4 years down the line and they have ran the test and it shows as high I tried to explain to the new GP that these tests were done 4 years ago my marker then was 135...it dropped down to 115 this time it's only 75.

I don't understand if it's lower and they weren't concerned 4 years ago why go through it all again it only causes me stress when I asked last time the consultant at the hospital said they don't why this happens

Is there certain questions I should be asking the last time put me in such a depression I ended up in a psych ward for 12 weeks.. although I had a bereavement around that time so that contributed.

I am fit and healthy not overweight I do smoke I know please don't judge I don't drink alcohol but I do have to get some release from something I enjoy

My family again are all again stressed out I would just like them to tell me why it's always like this should I be concerned and is there any preventative measures to take I know that stopping smoking will be 1 of them and I have been trying

  • Hello there and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear you are anxious following the ca125 blood test result.

As I am sure you are aware a ca125 blood test can sometimes be raised in some types of cancer but can also be high if there is inflammation going on in other organs in the body.

If people are experiencing symptoms and blood tests come back out of normal range the doctor will often will want to carry out some follow up tests just to make sure nothing else is going on.  This is sensible on the gp's part and often gives the patient some peace of mind when everything else does come back ok.

Do talk to your doctor about how all of this is making you feel. Hopefully they will be able to reassure you and put your mind at ease.

Unfortunately smoking can increase someone's risk of developing cancer and it is important people try to cut down and stop if they can. We also have a section about causes of cancer and reducing your risk here.

Please get back if you need to.

    All the best

    Naomi
