Dimple in breast worry

Hi Guys,

I have recently discovered a large dimple on my right breast. I am young and in my 20s but this has worried me massively. I went to my GP and she advised that she could not feel any lumps but advised that I have dimples on both breasts and it's because I have one bigger than the other. Is it worth getting a second opinion? I have been advised that am unable to book a breast screening as I am in my 20s!

  • Hi and thanks for your post

It can be worrying when you think there has been a change in your breast but it's good that you went to the GP to get checked out.

If there had been a cause for concern or she had felt a lump or irregularity she would have referred you.

You can try waiting for a few weeks to see if things settle down as sometimes hormonal changes that people experience ,can change breast size. If you have dimples on both breasts, again , this would be reassuring. If you remain worried though after a few weeks, do go back and have a chat about your worries, if necessary, with another GP in the practice.

Breast cancer is rare in your 20s and mammograms are not done in people under the age of 40 as the breast tissue is still very dense and results are difficult to interpret. Ultrasounds can pick up cysts and lumps and if there was a lump, a biopsy could then be done.

    All the best
