Can I take a stool sample if I’m on my period??? (REPLY QUIC

Can I do a “Faeces Culture and Sensitivity” stool test and “H pylori Antigen test” whilst on my period??? My doctor knows I’m on my period but still assigned me to do the test but I don’t even remember if they said to do the test today or in a few days? I’m guessing not but I did some research so I’m confused? I don’t remember my doctor saying not to do the test bc of my period. Also since I collected the stool stuff how long can I keep the equipment and where do I store it ( in case I do have to wait). I don't have cancer btw but I have a massive fear of colon cancer bc of how often I see blood or get tummy symptoms.

  • Hello Samsambb and thanks for posting,

It might help to see what the NHS website says about collecting a stool sample - follow the link below,

I don't think being on your period will be an issue with the sorts of tests your GP has asked for, but to be sure it would be best to ask someone at the GP surgery, if you can't get hold of a GP ask if the practice nurse can tell you.  And at the same time, ask them about your storage enquiry too as this could vary with local practice between different laboratories.  I hope they can help and am sorry I can't.

    Best wishes,

    Julia
