CLL?

I've been for blood tests recently and doc called me in to say lymphocytes were high at 6.3 . He went on to say they have been for four years (I was told by another doc 4 years ago I had cancer and thought this for 7 weeks until pet scans/ bone scans/mri all ruled it out) He said the results were higher and just said he'll repeat bloods in 3 months. He hasn't referred me to any consultant. Does this mean it could be CLL? Or am I putting 2 and 2 together and getting 5? I've tried to ring docs for explanation and he's on holiday for two weeks and no other doctor will talk to me!!
also, I've not had any infections recently and my infection levels themselves weren't raised

  • Hello Msdamd and thanks for posting,

I'm afraid I can't tell you what this recent elevated lymphocyte count means, but it doesn't have to be CLL. The most common reason for lymphocytes to increase in numbers is infection, particularly viral infections which I think you already know, bear in mind that we don't always register having had viral infections if they only make us a little off colour.

Things like this are inevitably unsettling until you can get some answers, but I hope you can take some comfort from what happened before when you had a range of tests which ruled out cancer. Try and keep an open mind for now and talk it over with your GP when they are back and you have the chance.

    Best wishes,

    Julia

  • Many thanks for your reply. It has put my mind at ease somewhat and I  will try not to think about it too much until next week when doctor is back. Thanks again
