Worried about ultrasound

So my doctor said she thinks I might have lymphoma. I had blood tests which showed my platlets were raised. I have drenching night sweats. And the itching omg feels like my legs are on fire. I went for an ultrasound because I have 3 lumps on my neck (more keep coming up) which they found more than what I can feel. There was a radiology doctor there and a consultant but non of them told me anything I heard them talking to eachother saying level 2. What does level 2 mean and how long will the ultrasound take. I haven't told any of my family yet and I'm 17 because I want to know what it is before I tell them and I don't know how to tell them

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

I am sorry to hear that you are going through different investigations and I can understand what an unsettling time this must be for you.

If the doctors think that it may be lymphoma, the level 2 or grade 2 may be describing the stage of lymphoma. The charity Action lymphoma explain the stages here

The ultrasound is a painless procedure and should take  about 15 to 30 minutes.  Lymphoma Action also have some information about this test which you may find helpful to look at here

The ultrasound can give the doctors more information about how the lumps look and trying to identify the type of lymphoma if that is what they think you have got. They also use the ultra sound to sometimes take a biopsy. In order to confirm that you have lymphoma they would need to look at the cells under a microscope.

Unfortunately it can take a while to diagnose a condition like lymphoma as they need to get all the different tests together before they know more. There is so much information to take on board so try not to spend too much time thinking about it all. Keep yourself busy and your mind occupied with other things if you can.

You may find it helpful and supportive to talk to a close family member or a trusted friend as it can be so difficult dealing with all of this on your own.

Please get back to us or give one of the helpline nurses a ring if you want to chat about any of this. The lines are open Monday-Friday 9am-5pm. 0808 800 4040.

    Take Care,

    Catherine
