Lump on inner Labia

Hi

apologies in advance if this is TMI. I'm 34 and about a week ago it was excessively itchy down below, i then noticed a small lump on the left upper outer side (nearer the clitorus) of my labia minora/inner lips.
there was no pain at that stage and just put it down to being irritated.
this week I noticed the lump is bigger, pea sized and now painful. The pain feels similar to how an under skin spot feels, tender and more painful if I apply pressure or slightly squeeze it. Sometimes a little itchy but not overly.
There is no head on it and just looks pink and inflamed on that side. No texture to it just like a shiny lump.
I have a call with the Gp today ( no luck actually seeing a doctor these days!) but I just wondered if anyone has experienced anything similar?

I stupidly started googling, and now I'm sick with worry it's something more sinister :(

  • Hello and thanks for your post

I'm sorry you have a health worry.

I'm afraid we can never say what’s causing anyone symptoms. It’s possible that the lump you are feeling could be due to a Bartholin's cyst.  These are a couple of pea sized glands (Bartholin's glands) which can be found either side of the opening to the vagina. These aren't usually that noticeable but cysts (fluid filled sacs) can develop in them. You can read more about these glands on the NHS website at this link.

Because of the current pandemic it’s quite common to be offered a telephone appointment initially with your doctor. If they feel they need to see you, they can offer you a face to face appointment.

Try not to over think things if you can and avoid googling as this is likely to add to the stress and anxiety you already feel.

If you want to talk anything over, do give us a call on Freephone 0808 800 4040, we are around 9-5, Monday to Friday.

    Best wishes,

    Celene

  • Hi

thank you for your reply. Thankfully the GP called me and offered to see me within the hour. The doctors is only around the corner.

it's a spot/cyst that's got infected. She advised it looks like it's coming to a head so may burst on its own or disappear. Course of antibiotics prescribed and just to bathe in warm water.

    :)
