Breast lump

Hi.
I found a hard pea size lump in my breast 6 weeks ago I rang docs and no app available so still not seen anyone about it. At the time I had no pain I now have what feels like bruise pain no where  near lump. Not sure if I should be concerned or who to see etc ,

  • Ring them and rell them you want a same day appointment.  I can't believe they've just left you like that! I rang my dr about 430 day I found my lump by 530 dr rang me back booked me in for 830 next morning to check it and I was referred.  Please re phone and say you want an emergency appointment.  They have a 2 week referral process for this sort of thing you should be seen by a hospital not just a dr within 2 weeks x

  • Ditto to what badger77 said and don't take no for an answer. They should be seeing you.

  • Hello there and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear you have a breast lump and haven't been able to get an appointment with your doctor.

Breast lumps are pretty common and mostly harmless but do need to be checked out just to be on the safe side. Common causes of lumps in the breast are simple fluid filled cysts or a build up of fatty tissue known as fibroadenomas that you can read more about here.

It is important you continue to try and get hold of your surgery. Some practices have online form that can be filled in about the problem and then a doctor will call you back, whereas others you may need to hang on the line for a while before you can speak to the receptionist.

During this pandemic most surgeries offer a telephone or video call initially and if needed can then arrange a time for people to be seen face to face. Often than not most women with a breast lump will go on to be referred to a breast unit for further tests for peace of mind but the majority of those won't go on to be diagnosed with cancer.

If you continue to struggle to speak to a doctor call NHS111 for advice.

    Take care

    Naomi

  • This happened to me during lockdown. Phone g.p surgery and request a face to face appointment today. If they say they cannot fit you in by the end of the week ask them for written confirmation that they are refusing to give you an appointment so you can take it to g.p out of hours or a and e . They will most likely find you an appointment as I gained one this way. Good luck

  • Thankyou all for advice I've finally managed to get a telephone doc app for tomorrow had to call 111 and they organised it for me
