Bowel cancer worried

Hi my names Jaime, I am 25 years old and I suffer bad health anxiety and since March on and off I have convinced myself I have bowel cancer.

I have spoken to my GP who put it down to mild ibs induced by anxiety but I can't help but think it's a lot worse then that.

In March I noticed my stool was more loose then usual not to the point of complete diarrhoea but mushy and sometimes formed but mushy this happens on and off and will mainly be more soft the more rubbish I've ate doctor told me to make a food diary of what could be triggering that but still not found the trigger which is leading me to think bowel cancer even more because if it was ibs surely I would of found my trigger by now.

I had a lot more undigested food in my stool tomato skins, beetroot, carrot skin.

Last week when I've wiped I've noticed small amount of bright red blood on the paper, this didn't happen again until this morning.

I'm also seeing more mucus in stools and approximately 3-4 times I've had diarrhoea episode lasting around 30 minutes all these occurred after eating and was relieved by going then didn't happen again for a while

Past couple weeks my stool has been normal type 3.

  • Hi and thanks for the post

It must be very difficult living with bad health anxiety and I do hope that you are seeing someone to help you with this, as it can greatly affect your day to day life. The following website may also be worth looking at regarding this

No one here on the forum will be able to tell you what your symptoms may be due to , though they are very commonly seen with IBS(irritable bowel syndrome) with anxiety also affecting your bowels- it's not always possible to find a specific trigger. The IBS website here   may also be of some help.

All we can say is that you continue to have a chat with the GP about your concerns, as you won't really find the answer on the website. It may be helpful to ask them for their reasons as to why they are not concerned - though bowel cancer at your age is also rare.

Try and not focus too much on your bowel habits if you can and if possible do try and speak to someone about your anxiety.

    All the best

    Wanda
