Orange peel skin

Hi. I was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer last January. Had lumpectomy and radiotherapy and currently on aromatase inhibitor (Exemestane after intolerance to Anastrazole). The other day, I noticed that I would appear to have developed orange peel skin on the breast which received the treatment. Just wondering how common a side effect of radiotherapy this is (finished rt mid April)? I'm freaking out a bit and away from home for next week, so won't be able to make an appointment with my GP until the following week. TIA.

  • Hello there and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear you needed treatment for breast cancer last year and are now worried by some recent changes to the affected breast.

Try not to over think things too much for now and enjoy your time away as best you can. As you say skin changes do often appear after radiotherapy treatment and this won't always happen straight away. You can read about these here.

I would suggest arranging an appointment for when you get back home just for your own peace of mind and so your doctor can take a look but I don't think you need to be seen any sooner.

Put this to the back of your mind for now and keep your mind on other things until you can see your doctor.

Get back in touch if you need to or you are welcome to call the nurse helpline on 0808 800 4040 to talk things through if you prefer.

    Best wishes

    Naomi
