Hi
I received a letter on Friday saying I need further tests after my first mammogram before they can give me a result. I'm really shocked as I have no symptoms. My appointment is tomorrow.

Hi Myrtle,
A very warm welcome to our forum.
Unfortunately, the nurses are only here from Monday-Friday, so I have replied to your post in the meantime.
This happens to a number of ladies and is always a very worrying time. We are often recalled because the mammogram is not as clear as it might be and another one is needed to be sure. Thankfully, not all recalls are bad news. I have been recalled myself and was fortunate enough to have been given the all clear.
I sincerely hope that all goes well for you tomorrow. Please keep intouch and let us know how you get on. We are always here for you.
Kind regards,
Jolamine xx
Hello and thanks for posting
A mammogram can show up an area that the doctors are not sure about, but they can't confirm what it is as more information is needed before a result can be given. This often means a repeat mammogram and possibly further tests such as an ultrasound and a biopsy.
Most women who get a recall turn out not to have cancer. Also, women who have had their first breast screening are more likely to be recalled than those who are having subsequent mammograms. This is because, if there are any question marks there are no previous breast x-rays that the specialist can use to compare 'the problem area' with to look for changes.
The organisation Breast Cancer Now have information on their website about screening recall and you might like to read it here. This gives a little more detail about the points I have mentioned.
There is no way around having to wait for the outcome of the recall. Most people find waiting in a situation like this stressful. But hopefully you will know more soon.
Kind regards,
Celene
