CIN 3 Concerns

Hi, today I received the results from my biopsy, I have CIN 3 cells. The letter went on to tell me that consultants will discuss my results at their next meeting and will be in touch.

I am worried sick as I had a biopsy 18 months ago, the results were that no further action was needed, however 18 months later the results are now that I have CIN 3 cells. Does this mean that these cells are spreading very quickly? I am extremely worried about it all and can't help but feel like something is very wrong. I would be very appreciative and grateful of any more information or advice regarding this.

Thank you for reading, Alex.

  • Hello Alex and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear your biopsy revealed CIN 3 and you are awaiting what the doctors decide needs to happen next from the meeting. It is natural to be concerned but try not to over think things too much for now and hopefully you'll find out more soon.

You may already know that CIN 3 stands for Cervical Intraepithelial Neoplasia which are pre cancerous cells that appear very abnormal compared to the normal cells usually found in the cervix. You can read more about this here. These often need removing to prevent them turning into cancer further down the line and you can read about the treatments here.

Usually it takes many years for abnormal cells to turn into cancer (10+) and that's if they ever do and whilst there may be occasions where cancer cells may appear sooner if found through the screening programme most of these will be at a very early stage where it is more easily and successfully treated.

I am sure the team will be in touch as soon as they have more information for you and will be able to explain things to you in greater detail. Do write down any questions you might have for them and express any concerns with them.

Wishing you all the best but do get back if you need to or if you would like to talk things through over the phone with one of the nurses our number is 0808 800 4040. We're here Monday-Friday 9-5.

    Take care

    Naomi
