  • Hello RMDonalds, and thanks for posting,

Persistent unexplained symptoms are inevitably worrying, but I’m afraid no one here on Cancer Chat can say what is causing them. I am sorry if you were hoping we would be able to tell you what might be going on.

Searching Google with symptoms often produces results that point to cancer, but that doesn't mean it is the only possible explanation. Most symptoms can occur for a variety of reasons, and although sometimes cancer can be a possibility, so can other things and overall, cancer may not even be that likely.

Rather than looking to the internet, our advice is always to see the GP to get assessed and if the GP isn't concerned, to ask them to explain what they think is going on and if any more tests are needed to find out.  As you are worried about lymphoma it would be a good idea to be frank and ask your GP why they don't think this is the problem. GPs have guidelines about when to refer people urgently because cancer is suspected so I can only assume, because your GP hasn't referred you, that they don't suspect cancer.

I don't know if it will help, but you can look at the sorts of symptoms which would usually trigger an urgent GP referral for suspected lymphoma on our website at the links below. But bear in mind that even when people are referred urgently, many won't have lymphoma after all.

I think the best thing to do would be to talk things over again with your GP,  be direct about your concerns and ask them if you need any more tests or a referral.  I hope their input helps and that they can tell you what is the cause of all your symptoms.

If you want to talk anything over, our number is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and we are around weekdays from 9 -5.

    Best wishes,

    Julia
