1 week following TURBT

Hi,

On the 28th May, I peed blood.

The Dr referred me for cystoscopy which I got on  the 9th of August (2ww wasnt available for me as I'm under 40)

This showed a tumour in my bladder. Told it's rare for a lady under 40.

Had USS on 13th Aug which confirmed it was 2.5 by 1.5 cms.

Last Weds 25th of August, I had TURBT followed by Mitomycon C intillation.

The pain peeing initially was quite bad which I wasnt warned about, although it seems obvious now.

It gradually got better and better, day 5 no pain. Now today, day 7, it's really painful to pee again.

Calling the Oncology Nurse to discuss tomorrow but wondered of anyone else has experienced this and how long it took for the pain to subside?

Results for what kind of cancer it is and of it is CIS or muscle invasive next week.

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

I am not sure if other forum members will reply, as this can vary.

It is important to report any new pain episodes to your hospital team, as it is possible that you may have an infection, or inflammation from treatment. Less commonly, some tissue debris can hinder the passage of urine.

I hope that you are able to get this sorted out soon.

We do have information on bladder cancer on our website on the link below,

    www.cancerresearchuk.org/.../bladder-cancer

I hope that this is helpful,

    Best wishes,

    Vanda

  • Thank you, I spoke to a nurse on the hospital urology helpline and she just said the pain takes different lengths of time to settle.

I was just concerned its 8 days now and there isnt much improvement. She didnt seem worried.

  • Hello and thank you for getting back to us.

I think because you have spoken with a nurse from the urology team about the pain that you should take her advice and feel a bit reassured. I say this because she is fully aware of your situation and the treatment you had. However, if the pain gets worse or if you start to find it difficult to pass urine get in touch again as this could be a sign of an infection. Drink plenty (water, juice) to help prevent this from happening.

Pain can take longer than week to go for some people. Do take pain relief tablets and make sure you follow the advice on the box about how many and how often you can take them. We have more information about the side effects of having a TURBT on our website, you can see it here

I hope in the next few days or weeks you will feel better and get back in touch with urology team if you feel you need to.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
