Tonsil cancer?

Hi there

I am 30 year old female that has found one enlarged yellow lumpy tonsil!

I have a persistent sore throat and I feel like something is stuck in my throat accompanied by a slight ear ache.

I am so very worried I have tonsil cancer ;( I have an ENT booked this Friday!

I have tried two different types of anti biotics in which neither of them helped or reduced the lump.

I have just given birth to a baby boy and I cannot bare to go through this- it's consuming me!

Has anyone experienced this before?

Best wishes

Helen

  • Hello Helen and thanks for your post

I’m sorry you are worried about your health. An Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) doctor is the right sort of specialist to go and see about an ongoing tonsil problem.

Some people are prone to tonsil symptoms and The ENT specialist will advise you after tests and examination what ( if anything else) needs to be done. This may involve removing the tonsils and if this is the case, then usually this is all the treatment that is required.

I can appreciate that you want to get as much information as you can before you go to the hospital, but unfortunately it is not possible to anticipate what they are going to tell you. Tonsil cancer is rare, but when it does occur if usually affects people over the age of 60. So I don’t think you need to be overly worried about this.

I know waiting to find out more is never easy but I’m afraid there is no real way round this. Some people find talking it through with family and friends and keeping busy can sometimes help. But until you know more it’s natural to worry.

Hopefully, our forum members will come along and share their experiences but it's important to remember that even if there are other people who has experienced similar things it doesn't mean you will have the same outcome as them. the important thing is to follow the advice you will be given at the ENT clinic.

I hope you know more about your situation soon. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything through. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene

  • Hi Celene

    Thank you for your reply.

I have tried anti biotics and I'm worried as the symptoms haven't gone, so it must be cancerous!

I am nervous for my apt but glad I got it! Nervous for the outcome!

    best wishrs
