Scared About Tonsil Lump

Hello. For A month now I have had a small red bump which is shaped like a bean behind my left tonsil which is mostly painless unless I drink a citrus drink, which makes me feel ii more. I went to the doctors who prescribed me Phenoxymethylpenicillin as she thought it may of been caused by a bacterial infection, which I have now finished, but the bump still hasn't gone. In the past 3 weeks I also feel like there is something stuck in the right side of my throat and there is bump under my right tonsil looks bigger than the left one (not sure if that's what I can feel). I feel this sensation mostly when I am lying down. I also started with slight ear pain in my left ear a few days ago. I don't have a sore throat or pain when I swallow, but it just feels like there is something in the right side of my throat when I do swallow. Does anyone have any advice on what I have or what I should do? I am very worried and am thinking of ringing my doctor again next Monday. I am a 24 year old male. Thank you. Jay

  • Hi and thanks for posting

As no one here will be able to say what may be causing your symptoms, if you remain worried then it's best to get checked out by the GP.

As you're posting on a cancer forum it sounds like you may be worried about cancer - cancer in your age group is rare especially in oral cancers, and there are many other possible explanations for your symptoms.

I hope it all settles down soon for you

    All the best

  • Hello and thanks for replying Wanda.

Yes the main worry for me is that this swelling behind my tonsil has been there for a long time now and the anti-infection antibiotics hasn't helped. My doctor did say if it was caused by a virus, they wouldn't help and if they don't to call back. I have a phone appointment with my doctor this Thursday so I feel a lot better about that. Hopefully I will get to the bottom of this and it is nothing too serious.

    Thanks again
