Lung cancer

I have to have ct scan because I have pain in my shoulder with lymph node pressing on it

I had breast cancer last year which I had recovered from

It seems the cancer has returned in my lungs after reading articles I fear that it is untreatable

I am concerned

  • Hello and thank you for your post.

I can appreciate that this is a worrying time for you however it is really only until you have the CT scans and then the results that more will be known. At this point no one will know whether your symptoms have anything to with the breast cancer coming back.

Waiting can be so difficult so I can understand why you are searching for an answer but doing this is not necessarily going to help but could cause more worry. Instead try to keep busy and take your mind of this, which I know can be a difficult thing to do. I hope you have friends and family you can talk with.

You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline

  • Hello I understand that no one no until scan comes back I'm just very very scared my mum had breast cancer and I watched her die when I was 14 I just dot want that for my son who still lives with me

My other children are all grown up amd left home

Sorry to have bothered you I no you are very busy

  • Hello Bbbd4 and thanks for getting back to us, it is no bother to reply to you - that is what we are here for,

I am very sorry to learn about your mum and can understand that her death is on your mind and making this an even more scary time. 'Not knowing' is usually horrible and most people find themselves thinking ahead and imagining the worst, but I think you need to try and take things one step at a time and keep as open a mind as you can. Not an easy task I know.

When breast cancer comes back, there is usually some sort of treatment option, but only the specialist team involved can say how curable it is. There are never any guarantees with cancer treatment, but even when a cure isn't possible, treatment can often be given to try and control the disease for a good long while. But until you know more, the waiting is inevitably stressful and understandably, being in this position is really tough.

Do what you can to get through the days ahead and be aware of the stress you are under, so don't ask too much of yourself and go carefully - being preoccupied can make it harder to concentrate so try and take things easy and if you drive, take extra care.

I do hope the CT scan is soon. When you have it, ask how long the result report will take to come back and who will be letting you know.

If you want a chat, do give us a call on Freephone 0808 800 4040, we are around office hours (9-5) on weekdays.

    Best wishes,

    Julia

  • Hi Bbbd4

Ive just come across your post whilst searching for answers. My husband also has shoulder pain and had cr scan on his lungs as shadow found. Just waiting on results. Have you had anything back on your scan? I hope it's nothing serious.
