Re call

Hi.
I have recently been recalled following mammogram.
at appointment felt they were concerned about particular area. I had mammogram, scan and took 6 samples via biopsy.
Follow up to see surgeon in 2 weeks. Not given diagnosis

but told to prepare to be given a plan and not to plan anything after this date. All sounds the worst but are they likely to say all this even if biopsy may be clear?
thanks in advance

  • Hello and thank you for your post

I can imagine that being told this must have caused you a lot of anxiety. It's difficult to say though whether you can read anything into this , as clinics operate in different ways throughout the country.

It's possible though that they may suspect from the mammogram and ultrasound ,that the biopsies may show some irregularities or cancer, although they wouldn't really be able to know for sure until those results came through. Some clinics won't say anything to the patient until all results are through, but it may be that they wanted to prepare you.

At the moment though, you need to sit tight and just wait for all the results to come through and to have the appointment with the specialist to see what the situation actually is.

This is a difficult time waiting and not really knowing - I hope you are able to keep yourself busy and that you have some support around you.

Once you know a little more, please do ring if there's anything you would like to talk through with one of us here on the helpline - the number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

I hope you don't have too long to wait

    All the best

    Wanda
