Spiculated Mass in breast

Hi,

I have had a biopsy and the breast nurse rang yesterday. I have in her words a "slightly suspicious spiculated mass 4mm X 4mm". I had a similar mass in my salivary gland and that was removed 18 months ago. It was a benign mass with inflammatory features  I would like to know the percentage of breast mass that are benign versus cancer? I am just getting perspective as I have to wait until 3rd Sept for the result, so some facts will help me in that.

Thank you

  • Hello and thanks for your post

The majority of breast lumps are benign but they do have to be checked out just to be on the safe side. I'm afraid no one on here can tell you what percentages of breast masses are benign versus cancer. You would really need to discuss this with your breast care team.

Waiting for biopsy results is very stressful, and it's natural to feel worried. But I’m afraid until you see the specialist team and knows your results, and any other tests they think might be necessary will you know what’s the matter.

I can appreciate that you want to get as much information before you go to the hospital, but unfortunately it is not possible to anticipate what they are going to tell you.

Waiting in circumstances like this is never easy but I’m afraid there is no real way round this. Some people find talking it through with family and friends and keeping busy can sometimes help. But until you know more it’s natural to worry.

I hope everything turns out to be okay.

    Kind regards,

    Celene

  • Thank you for the reply. I have to call the hospital on 3rd September for the results.I might know then or need more tests they said. I dont know why, but I always thought people got results quicker from start to finish. It will 2x months from first mammogram to get the results and that was with a cancellation. All I can do is wait.
