Hi. This is catching my eye as I am just out of hospital having had this type of adenoma removed. Mine was in a very awkward area - the small intestine. It was also described as having low grade dysplasia. So having gone through it my view would be, yes, go on and have it removed! This seems to me to be preventive care. Mine was removed under a general anaesthetic and was done endoscopically. I live alone and came out last Sunday but have been reasonable. Feel a little week but do have other conditions.
Hello and thank you for your post,
There are three different kinds of adenomas - tubular, villous and tubulovillous.
How you will be followed up after removal of an adenoma and the need to have follow up colonoscopies will depend on a number of things such as the number of adenomas you had, their size, and the type of dysplasia. Your specialist doctor will follow UK surveillance guidance to see if you need to be followed and if so how often. For example your doctor may recommend having a colonoscopy in one year, three years, five years or not at all.
I am afraid because we are not involved in your care we cannot tell if you need to be followed up and if so how often. You are likely to be told this by your specialist team. If some time has passed and you do not know about this do get back in touch with this team or your GP. I hope you know about your situation soon.
Please get back to us if you need any more information or support. You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.
Take care,
Caroline
