Lymphoma

My partner has been diagnosed with lymphoma, from his xray/ct scan they can see a lump next to his heart and a mass across his chest, he has raise lymph nodes in more then 1 place. They are doing a biopsy tomorrow and im worried it is cancerous. They said it could be benign.

  • Hi hun sorry to hear this hope he's OK. My partner has a lump in his neck and now one in his arm pit. What were your partners symptoms as we really scared xx

  • Hiya,

He was short of breath, his voice changed a little, he seems to be tired all the time now, he has 2 lumps under his armpit and 1 in his chest. He has a tumour next to his heart. Is your partner having a biopsy? X

  • Ille be keeping all crossed for your partner. Hes had a scan on the neck so far and a follow up next month they said possible inflamed saliva gland. Now he's found this 2nd lump I'm unsure x

  • Hello, and thank you for posting.

It is difficult for us to say what may be happening for your husband, as we are not part of his hospital team, but it must be incredibly stressful for you all waiting for answers.

I see from your post that he will be having his biopsy at some point today, then it is a matter of waiting for the results. This part of the process is so hard, but the only thing we can suggest is trying to keep yourselves busy and therefore your mind distracted. This will hopefully help time pass for you both.

Do take care, and if you need to talk things through with someone separate from the situation do give our nurses a call. The number is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Sarah.

  • Thank you for the reply,

He had his biopsy yesterday, i did ask the dr questions and she said where the mass is on his chest is most likely lymphoma, the dr last week already gave him a diagnosis of this, i was unsure how he was so sure before doing the biopsy. We was told the chances of it being benign is 1% now. So most likely is. But im waiting for the results and trying to stay busy in the mean time

  • Hi there how are things now?  I started with a cough and breathlessness a few months ago and then changes to my voice.  I get my CT scan tomorrow. I have two swollen lymph nodes in my neck.  The waiting is torture

  • Hello and thanks for posting

Waiting for tests and results is really hard and I can appreciate that it's a very stressful time.

Sometimes, although symptoms seem very similar, the outcomes can vary hugely as there can be many different explanations for these sort of problems, so though easy to do, it's perhaps best not to make comparisons.

I hope you don't have to wait too long for the results of the CT scan. Once you know a little more , please do ring if you would like to go over anything with one of us here on the helpline- Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

Try and not think too far ahead at the moment

    All the best

    Wanda

  • Does lymphoma show up on blood test ?

  • Hello Hazza21 and thanks for posting,

There are a quite a few different tests that can be run on a blood sample, but in general although blood test results might suggest that something is the matter, for example inflammation somewhere in the body, they don't always tell doctors exactly what is going on. Blood tests are one part of a jigsaw and the context is important when doctors are deciding what could be the matter.

Lymphoma can trigger something that isn't right on a blood test, but not in everyone all of the time. So it might not show up, but if you have already had some blood tests do talk them over with your doctor.

These days a lot of people seem to search Google for answers about their symptoms, but if you do, bear in mind that in most situations there are a number of possible explanations and although cancer might be one of them, it often isn't the most likely. Do talk things over with your doctor and be frank about what is worrying you.  They are in the best position to be able to help.

    Best wishes,

    Julia

  • I have been low in vitamin b12 for 3/4 years

could that be a symptom of lymphoma

I have had blood film test and bone function and full blood count would that detect lymphoma I'm so worried

I had a chest x ray about 8/9 months ago

and a stomache ultrasound like 13 months ago would that pick anything up to do with lymphoma I have spoken to the doctors but they don't seem to think anything's wrong
