Dark spots on inner labia

I am awaiting a doctors appointment on Friday for an examination but I'm extremely worried.

I have discovered about 6-7 black spots/patches on my inner labia and they are flat and asymmetric.

I am only 27 years old and I know vulvar melanoma is rare but I am almost certain that I have it and I am losing my mind.

Could it be something else which is not cancerous?

  • Hello,

I can see there have been a few ladies with this issue.  Did anyone get an answer?

I have Lichen Sclerosus (diagnosed about 3 years ago) .. which can lead to vulva cancer.

a couple of day ago a noticed a couple of brown spots on my labia :(

I have a Drs appointment on Tuesday so will hopefully find out it's all nothing then.

  • Hi and thanks for posting

It's possible you may not hear back from the previous posters, as people don't always come back on the forum.

People do also have different explanations for their symptoms, so their experiences may not be the same as yours. It's not really possible to say what may be causing the brown patches, as you do need to get examined first.

It's good you have the doctor's appointment coming up and that you will get a good check then.

    I hope all goes well

    All the best

  • Hello and thanks for posting again,

It is good to hear that you have seen the doctor and she feels that there is nothing to worry about.

Hopefully when you see the dermatologist they will also be able to confirm this.

    Thanks for letting us know,

    All the Best,

    Catherine

  • Just to give an update, (in case anyone has similar)

I saw the dermatologist at the hospital today.

she also said she doesn't think there's anything to worry about ... But .. I have to have photos taken, so they can compare in the future for any changes, and I also have to have one of the spots biopsied.

I feel like I'm just showing my bits to everyone now :)

  • I have this issue, darks spots patches all around inside the lips, I can see it's got worse over the last year

I had hpv abnormal few years back and biopsy, next screening I had I mentioned the marks but was very few then, they said oh probably from your biopsy

fast for ward to Friday 1st October I feel cobcerned I can see them they have worsened, I also past year keep get tears there, that can bleed small amount and take ages to heal, hurt when wipe.
I went doctor on Friday 1st saw nurse who said wasnt hemtoma, but instead said it was Pityriasis versicolor, I said in vagina have you heard of that before, she said never but can. Sent me of to buy fungal cream etc,

today 5/10 I have started study trial for pessary for BV. I decided to ask the doctor to look. She said yes I see it I'm sending you to specialist. Squeezed me in to full clinic on 14th October, my eyes are welling up, the feelings are just mixed. I said so is it not versicolor. She said no it wouldn't be etc,

mwntioned age spots but I'm 30 years old.

im really worried, sounds gross and strange but there's no pictures online that even help distinguish what I have so I am paniking,

mid any one going through same I would love to speak to you.

  • Hello vickyj and thanks for posting,

A lot of people look on line to try and work out what is the matter or come along to Cancer Chat to compare symptoms, but I am not sure how well either works, I think it is easy to go around in worrying circles without being any the wiser.

Fear and worry can run away with any of us, but try not to anticipate what is going on and keep an open mind about these spots - they may not have anything to do with cancer. It is good that you are being seen next week at a specialist clinic so you will get some answers soon and have less time to worry. For now there probably isn't much else you can do aside from trying not to let the inevitable stress of not knowing get on top of you. Do your best to distract yourself and take your mind on other things.

You are welcome to call us if you want to talk anything over but we can't diagnose anyone. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and we are around weekdays 9-5.

    Best wishes,

    Julia
