Dark spots on inner labia

I am awaiting a doctors appointment on Friday for an examination but I'm extremely worried.

I have discovered about 6-7 black spots/patches on my inner labia and they are flat and asymmetric.

I am only 27 years old and I know vulvar melanoma is rare but I am almost certain that I have it and I am losing my mind.

Could it be something else which is not cancerous?

  • Hello and thanks for your post

There can be many reasons for symptoms to develop such as a possible infection and thankfully most won't be anything as serious as cancer.

However, only a doctor can make a medical assessment so it’s good that you have an appointment coming up. Doctors are trained to assess symptoms and can arrange tests if they feel it’s necessary to try to find out what might be going on.

I hope you know more about your  situation soon. Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene

  • Hello!

I hope you're ok? I think I have the same thing... Did you find out what it is?

I need to book a doctors appointment, I keep putting it off because of covid

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

GP's are actively encouraging people if they are worried about symptoms to come forward. Because of corona virus you will have a telephone appointment and then if they need to see you they will arrange a face to face appointment. There maybe a simple medical explanation for the dark spots which does not mean anything as serious as cancer.

Try not to compare your situation with anyone else on the forum as your symptoms are specific to you. I would also stay away from google which is so general and will not help replace a doctor with all their years of training.

I hope you make an appointment soon.

    Best Wishes,

    Catherine

  • Hi sorry to hear about this and did u go doctor's I also found the same I have had itching for ages but didn't really take much notice thought just dry but last week I got a ingrowing hair and it was sore that's when I looked in a mirror to see and not to do with the ingrowing hair I noticed a black patch white surrounding skin I'm calling the doctor Monday hopefully nothing serious xx

  • Hello and thank you for posting

It's possible you may not get a reply , so this is just to say that hopefully, you will have been able to get an appointment with the GP .

Most of the time, these things are no cause for concern but it's always good to get checked out, especially as no one will be able to say what they are without being examined.

I hope things settle down soon for you

    All the best

    Wanda

  • Hi I went doctor this morning after seeing 2 doctor they want it biopsy and fast track it just waiting now

  • Hello and thanks for getting back in touch

Glad to hear you saw a doctor this morning and they are referring you for some tests and hopefully you know more soon.

Try not to over think things for now as there is still a good chance this isn't anything as serious as a cancer but good to know this is being looked into, just to be on the safe side.

    Best wishes

    Naomi

  • Hi hun I was wondering if you found out what this was I have the same thing x

  • Hello Lady 123 and Gemski89

Thanks for posting.  We always advise anyone with any symptoms they are concerned about to get them checked by their doctor to be on the safe side.  Finding out what happened to someone else will not shed any light on what might be causing your symptoms and could either frighten you more or give you false reassurance.  So please do go get in touch with your doctor.  However, I would say that cancer of the labia is not very common so it will probably turn out to be something else.

Lady123, I notice that you have mentioned on a number of different conversations on here a range of symptoms that you have been concerned about.  If you find you are worrying about cancer a lot it might be a good idea to talk this over with your doctor too. A site like this will never be able to diagnose you and lingering on here and googling symptoms is more likely to frighten you than give you reassurance.  So if you are worried about your health speak to your doctor.

I hope this has been helpful

    Martin
