Swollen lymph nodes but clear blood tests

Hi everyone i hope someones able to help me and i just need someone to talk to.

Im 22 year old female and have swollen lymph nodes, i have 2 on my right side in my groin, 1 on the left side of my groin and 1 on the left side above my collar bone.

I went to the doctors yesterday and she said they are swollen lymph nodes but thinks the one in my groin on the left could be an infected hair follical so she perscribed me some broad antibioctics and took some blood.

The doctor messaged me this morning to say my bloods are normal but im concerned because if it is an infected hair folical surely my white blood cell count would be elevated. I have tried phoning the doctors this morning but they are only taking emergancy phone calls and the next routine one wouldnt be until thursday next week. But i just wanted to ask some questions like if my white blood cell count is normal then do i need to keep taking the antibiotics? She has made an appointment for a phone call review in 2 weeks time.

Apart from my lynoh nodes being swollen i am also fatigued and kinda brushed it off as being tired from chasing my 1 uear old around and ive been losing weight. I started doing regular exercise 5 days a week a month or 2 ago but found i was loosing more weight quicker than i thought so 2 weeks ago i reduced my exercise and now to it 2 times a week and started eating more to try and get my weight up but im still loosing weight. Obviously im worried silly about the C word and would have been much more relaxed if my white blood cell count was elevated.

Sorry for the long post my anxiety is through the roof and just need someone to talk to.

  • Hey hope you're all ok!

So they did the ct scan which came back clear, they took bloods which came back with anaemia and low folate so I was put on iron and folate tablets. Still have the swollen lymph nodes but they aren't too concerned because they aren't too big. They haven't got any bigger or smaller so I guess in a way that's a good thing. However I'm 31 weeks pregnant with baby number 2 so I haven't had the time to over think or obsess/worry about them.

  • Aw that is wonderful news! Congratulations on your pregnancy! No wonder you haven't had time for updates; best of luck with everything.

  • Hi just thought I'd reply , I'm 17 and am going through kind of the same thing with slightly swollen lymph nodes in my neck and also have anaemia and low folate . Just can't help but think if that has anything to do with my lymph nodes I am going for an ultrasound on my neck as my bloods came back normal but the doctor doesn't know what's causing the nodes in my neck to be enlarged

  • Hi,

I'm in a similar situation. I've had a raised lymphnode on my neck for around 9 months now. I never thought much of it until I got another at the bottom of my head around 4 months ago and in the last month I've had another appear on my neck below my ear, all on the right hand side. I've had my bloods done and they're all normal.

I was refered to ears nose and throat for investigation and ultrasounds but the specialist literally felt my neck and said it's swollen lymphnodes and they'll go on their own, but they're still here.

About 4 weeks ago I got mastitis and after antibiotics I was still sore and the additional lumps she felt in my breast and armpit were still there all be it smaller. I got an appointment for breast clinic last week and everything was normal (doctor wanted to rule out breast cancer as mastitis is uncommon in someone not breast feeding)

Been back to my doctor as she wanted to continue investigating and get to the bottom of it. I wouldn't say my lumps have gotten much bigger or any smaller, I just get new ones every so often. She's refered me for an ultrasound at the hospital and I'm just waiting for my appointment to come through. Did you get to the bottom of yours?

  • They just said it was normal and nothing to worry about and it might never go down but it could be caused by my acne which confused me a lot

  • Hi I have had the exact same problem as you from start to finish , slim already and found the weight fell off me after having baby number one who is 21 months... lumps under arm on neck around base of skull and in my groin. Bloods clear, no pregnancy, ct scan show that lymph nodes are swollen but no sign that there is any abnormal shape or texture to them, not cancerous basically the doctor said .. so I'm happy out but lumps keep appearing , and staying . I'm nearly at 7 weeks since I got the first top under my left arm. I have had 2 rounds of antibiotics, the lumps are painless and rubbery. I sometimes get night sweats. I am 8 stone and 5 f4in .. I'm actually very worried even though I'm told bY my doctor that everything looks fine from the ct scan. They just want to send me to a haematologist as well like you, to check bloods again. I'm so worried .

  • Hello and thank you for posting

It can't be easy not knowing what the cause of the recurrent swollen lymph nodes may be, although it's reassuring to know that the CT scan report did not show any areas of concern and that the blood tests were negative too.

It sounds like the GP is being thorough in referring you to a haematologist checking to make sure all bases are covered. Sometimes nodes can come up unexpectedly or if your immune system is a bit low - it can be tiring having a small baby.

Although symptoms may sometimes seem exactly the same, people will have different explanations for their symptoms, so though tempting, it's best not to conclude that you will have exactly the same explanation as someone else.

I hope you get to know a little more soon

    All the best

    Wanda

  • Hi All,

I have a lump on left side groin, it's hard rubbery feel not painful I went to the doctors who gave me a course of antibiotics which did nothing to help. My blood test results are normal.  I have an ultrasound on Wednesday. I feel tired all of the time but thought with my job and the hours this is quite normal. I'm 47. I get a really dull continuous pain in my underarms and keep getting raised glands in my neck. Weight loss and feeling sick.

It's hard to keep positive when you don't know what's going on, although it's nice to know others are out there going through the same it's not nice for you as I understand the worry it causes. I just want to know what is going on now.

    Thank you for your posts.

  • Hi,

just wondered if anyone had any updates on anything? I have some persistent swollen lymph nodes, going for a ultrasound next Friday, bloods and other tests have come back normal apart from have low iron levels. symptoms sound similar to other peoples, trying not to worry as the docs have said everything so far seems positive but I also want to know what's making me feel so rubbish all the time.
