Pea sized lump on inner labia

Sorry, I know this is really gross. I’m 20 and have so much anxiety about everything, especially Health and I know it’s wrong but I am constantly on google/nhs/web md etc.

I have found a hard smaller than pea size lump on my vulva/ upper inner labia (above the clitorus) it is immovable but it not visible unless the skin is stretched and doesn’t hurt unless squeezed but I’m really worried it’s vulva cancer. It can’t be an STI as I’m not sexually active and it’s not an ingrown hair as there is no hair there.

I’m really worried

  • Hi, I know this is an old post.

But just to say that I had the HPV vaccine as a teenager, then at my first smear at age 24, I had severe abnormal cells on my cervix, and needed them removed.

So just because you've had the vaccine, don't think you can't have cervical changes.

    Thanks

  • I am so happy that I read through this, I couldn't find anything on the internet about a hard pea sized lump. I didn't even think there were hair follicles in the area that mine was in.

I gave it a gentle squeeze and to my relief, some puss was exerted.

    Thank you

  • I know it's a really old conversation but wanted to add a story about my experience.

I had a lump appear on my inner labia slightly below the clitoris. It was skin coloured at first and was tender to touch roughly 1cm round.

I did my research and most of what I found pointed towards vulva cancer. However 4 or 5 days of panicking the lump changed colour and became more purple.

2 days after on a sunday when I was panicking how I would get a doctor to look in a lockdown. I went to feel the lump and couldnt locate it.

It turns out it was a cyst and it naturally burst on its own.

I contacted the GP anyway to be on the safe side and he said because I shave and wax it's most likely to have been an ingrown hair folical or a cyst of some sort.

He recommended several different things. But my overall experience is if it doesnt go away in a few days (0-7 days) get advice!

Hope you all had good outcomes :)

  • Hi,

I know this is a old thread but did you get any answers. Has anything changed ever since. Was it a cyst? Did it go away?

sorry for bombarding you with questions xx

  • Hi,

reading yours post and everyone's answers has reassured me a lot... I'm 22 and have been experiencing hard and sore lumps on my vagina lips for the last year, I also get ones on the outside of my vagina that are really sore and often puss or blood filled - more blood filled recently than puss. These are sort of soft to touch and incredibly painful.

I've put off seeing a doctor about these properly as I'm worried about what they might be - I spoke to a pharmacist and they just completely blanked and looked at me like I was some sort of freak before telling me that they don't know what could help which kind of put me off more.

I quite often got what I think are spots or ingrown hairs so try not to shave those areas but I'm starting to get both the small hard sore pea sized and the bigger painful puss or blood filled ones together... I guess I just want to know if other people get this? Sometimes they are a bit itchy but not all the time.

    Thanks in advance,

one completely self conscious body hating young adult

  • Hi and thanks for posting

It's good that you've read about people in similar situations so you can see that there are many reasons for these spots to appear.

However it will always be difficult for anyone to say what's going on for someone from a website or forum, as they would really need to be checked out by the GP. They do these checks very often so please don't worry about that -  at least you will get to know what's going on for you - far better to do that than continue to worry about cancer on the forums.

If they're painful and have some pus they may need antibiotics so please do make the appointment.

    All the best

  • Hi, I know this is quite an old thread but i'm slightly worried. I'm 15, 16 this september and sexually active. I first discovered a pea sized lump on the top of my pubic area (not sure of the correct terminology) which i thought was a normal pimple, i proceeded to try an pop this 'pimple' as i have a slight obsession. This 'pimple' when popped oozed a purple/red liquid which slowly turned into blood. After popping it, it slowly went down over a couple of weeks. it's no longer there but i've recently had a new concern, on the inner side of my vulva lip i found a small lump which i thought to be a shaving bump so i left it. a couple minutes later it started iching loads so i itched it and took a picture to see exactly what it was, i saw that the area had become red from irritation and i was slightly worried. I continued itching as i thought it'd just go away, which actually made the itching worse and irritated the area more. I haven't touched the lump since as i was scared of infection but i checked the area around it for other ones to see if it was just one or multiple. i found another slightly bigger one on the corner close to the bikini line. I'd like to know if there's anything wrong and if i need to go to the doctors as i'm quite scared.

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

I am sorry to hear about your situation.

It can cause a lot of worry when you are dealing with a problem on your own and it is very easy to let your mind run away with you.

We can't diagnose you but it would be good to show it to a doctor or a nurse at the surgery. Cancer at your age is very unlikely but you may find that you have an ingrowing hair that has become infected.  Often the more you touch it the more uncomfortable it gets.  If they do think that it is an infection they may want to take a swab and give you some antibiotics or some cream.

I am sure that you will feel very relieved when you have managed to share your concerns with a health professional.  That is what they are there for.

You could also share your worries with a trusted adult like a parent.

    I hope this helps.

    Take Care,

    Catherine

  • Hey, I know this was posted over two years ago but something similar is currently happening to me. I'm 21 and living at home during the summer. I have a pea sized lump on my labia majora and haven't thought anything of it for ages ( I can't remember not having it) but it must have grown slightly so I have been noticing it more recently idk? It's the same colour as my skin and hard to touch, I don't have any other symptoms of anything (I've been Googling like mad) but I'm even uncomfy calling the doctors or my family hearing me phone them, let alone having a doctor look ): I know I'm being silly just not sure what to do xxx

  • Hi and thanks for posting

It's not unusual to have blocked sebaceous cysts or a Bartholins cyst in this area , but no one would really be able to say unless you were examined. GPs see these very often and will examine many people of your age with similar queries. You can ask the practice nurse to come in if it makes you more comfortable, but it will reassure you knowing at least it's being looked at.

Your parents don't need to know if you feel uncomfortable about it and you can call the GP outside the home.

I hope you manage to give them a call

    All the best
